Waiting for summer and cottage life

Taking photos on lake

Cottage in the middle of nowhere

Hello travelers!

Are you always ready to adventure around the world or do you need “holiday” from your exciting life like me? This photo was taken right next to our cottage. Perfect place to relax between the crazy traveler and blogger life. Just nature, animals and quietness around you. What else would wild adventurer ask from her holiday?

Cottage life is super normal in Finland. I think that like half of families living in Finland own their own cottage or visit someone else’s cottage every year. We just love our homes away from home. I can’t remember any summer from my childhood when we wouldn’t have spent at least a week on our cottage. Swimming, eating barbecue food, and playing board games. Those are the happiest memories I have.

With love,
Lost Viivi

Blogger’s summer holiday

Finnish summer scenery

Church in Finland

Hello there, how are you doing?

Today’s postcard is going to be full of summer holiday and blogging thoughts. The photo above was taken during my last summer while working. The last 4 years or so I have been in different summer jobs and loved all of them dearly. I applied for one job this year (Who wouldn’t want to be robot mower’s babysitter?). However, it’s unlikely that I will get this job so generally speaking my holiday will this year be free of working for others!

So, what plans I have for my summer? Even if I won’t be working for others, there will be a lot of working for myself. This business thing is taking off slowly so I will literally write whole June. It’s not a bad thing! In addition to that, I was invited on two family holidays. At the beginning of June, we will go for Stockholm cruise. While at the end of June my family flies to Germany where we will drive around sightseeing castles. Right after that trip I will fly by myself to Japan and stay there for few months. My perfect summer is full of writing and traveling around the world!

What holiday plans do you have? Any jobs or trips around the world? Feel free to answer this postcard in the comments!

With sunny wishes,
Viivi

Tale of Touristy Hats

tourists_rome

Touristy life, Rome, Italy

This is photo from the first day of my and my mom’s Rome holiday. This is also story of the touristy hats that I kept seeing everywhere. My mom had bought her hat back at home and I was laughing when she told me to get one. I should have believed her. Mom is always right (expect when you are trying to find Vatican… but that’s story for other time!) First day went well and I saw almost everyone using those touristy hats. It was over 30 degrees in Rome and we were literally dying.

Then second day after our amazing trip to Vatican I got sick from the sun. Sunstroke. I haven’t had one probably after I was kid. Fortunately, I only got it when we were returning to our hotel. We used tram and there was no air conditioning. The short walk to our hotel on sun was like torture. Then I slept rest of the day while my mum went to eat and came back with some random food and medicine for me.

Next day I bought touristy hat for myself right away we exited the hotel. I had to pay A LOT. But at least I survived without getting sick for the rest of my trip.

With love,

Finding Summer from Bremen

bremen_river

Bremen, Germany

After you try to enjoy the Finnish spring knowing that there may never be warm summer visiting city full of green leaves and over 20 degrees warmth is like finding paradise. My visit to Bremen was full of sunshine and walking around with only t-shirt. There is no feeling like enjoying summer after too long and cold winter! If you don believe me, life a few years in Finland.

Evening walk

Finland sunset and nature

TAMPERE, FINLAND

I just took this photo while on evening walk with my friend. Isn’t Finland pretty? It has finally seemed like summer/spring (even if they promised that the cold will return next week…) so everyone is spending time outside, eating ice cream and just having fun. In Finland you never know if these will be the last warm days of the year so everyone is enjoying as much as they can. So, walk in warm spring weather, sunset and good company, what would be better end for your day?

Shadows & Reflections

Helsinki streets and buildings

I love looking at shadows and taking photos of them even if my photography skills aren’t good enough to make these photos beautiful. Well I’m improving so maybe someday I will take the perfect shadowy photo! Oh, and another thing I love that is a little easier to photograph is reflections in water like in that small pond in this photo.

Summer job and Church

church

This summertime photo is from my first real job as church guide. I spent two summers almost alone hanging around this church in Finnish countryside. I had almost no one visiting but when someone came I told them about the history of this church. I had fun meeting many foreigner travellers and local people.
