Beach before summer

DSC02785

Turku, Finland

What’s your favorite time to go for a beach? Most people will answer right away, summer. In my opinion, this needs deeper thinking than just giving the first answer coming to my mind.

Summer on the beach is of course amazing! Going to swimming, hot sand and sunbathing for hours. Relaxation is the keyword when we talk about summer beaches. That’s nice for a few days but not my favorite time to go to the beach.

Winter, on the other hand, has its own charm. You can’t see the sand or water (I’m now talking about Finnish winters with too much snow everywhere). This means walking on the ice/lake’s surface is possible and so you can just go from one beach to another without thinking the water under you. Winter also means skiing and skating on the ice!

Both of those seasons are nice and all but my favorites are autumn and spring. Today’s postcard photo was taken a year ago in Turku. Spring had just begun.

The raw nature, quietness and tragic atmosphere of beach in autumn or spring make me feel poetic. Stormy sky. Dark wet sand under my sneakers. Only deadly cold water making sounds when hitting the beach. Perfect. I find these moments perfect and so my answer to the question is spring or autumn.

With love,
Viivi

Bamboooo!

bambooforest

Bamboo Forest, Arashiyama, Kyoto, Japan

I don’t know why I haven’t shared this photo before but here is one more lovely memory from Japan. (Don’t mind that couple taking photo…) Taking photo without photobombing people in Kyoto’s Bamboo Forest is literally impossible. I visited just before sunset so my photo doesn’t have that many people but it is also a little dark. Nothing can truly show the beauty this place holds inside.

Have you ever been to Bamboo Forest? If not remember to check it out if you are on your way to Kyoto!

Evening walk

Finland sunset and nature

TAMPERE, FINLAND

I just took this photo while on evening walk with my friend. Isn’t Finland pretty? It has finally seemed like summer/spring (even if they promised that the cold will return next week…) so everyone is spending time outside, eating ice cream and just having fun. In Finland you never know if these will be the last warm days of the year so everyone is enjoying as much as they can. So, walk in warm spring weather, sunset and good company, what would be better end for your day?

Hellish Monkey Park Mountain

Kyoto Monkey Park Arashiyama

Monkey Park, Arashiyama, Kyoto, Japan

Today I felt like sharing one Japan memory. This photo is from the hellish Monkey Park aka mountain I didn’t know I was going to climb on that day. I love this photo and I loved Arashiyama even more. The climb to top of the mountain was totally worth of all the pain but I have just one wish for the park… Please can you always mention to everyone that it’s not park but HUGE mountain you have to climb up! That would have saved my cute shoes and dead legs…

What wouldn’t I do to see funny and cute monkeys?

Almost Winter

Finland

This photo was taken after proper first snow earlier this year. One of the most magical moments of year if I can say my opinion. I hate cold and too much snow but first snow has always been one of my favorite things in whole world. That feeling of winter coming and dark autumn ending…

Ueno Park’s Torii Gates

Ueno Park, Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo’s best torii gate photography place is definitely in Ueno park. I walked past this spot so many times that I can testify how popular it is. There was always someone posing in front of the torii path. This photo was taken on surprising moment when no one else was under the gates.

Autumn Days

Finland

More Instagram photos because I’m lazy! This is my current home town before the winter and snow took over… I have to walk this path every day to school so for me this view is the most boring thing ever. But I though you may find it pretty? Or at least get the feeling of Finnish autumn.

Old Bird Tower

birdtower

You have probably hear about Pokemon GO came by now? I will now admit that I’m totally hooked to that game. It’s like all my childhood dreams have came alive. Because of the game I have found interesting places I would have not otherwise visited.

One example is this old bird watching tower close to my summer cottage. I was walking and trying to catch the  Pokemons when one of them appeared on this old side road. Of course I decided to go and see what I would find from there!
